INSTRUMENTS

Clarinet in B♭

The clarinet is a very versatile instrument able to cover nearly four octaves.  Clarinets are great for all types of music from classical to jazz.

Due to the size and weight of a clarinet I would recommened that children who wish to start need to have lost their two front top and bottom with the adult teeth coming through.  If their hands are not big enought to play the B♭ clarinet I can start them on the Nuvo C clarinet - see below for further details.

Saxophone

The saxophone is a very modern instrument having been created by Belgium inventor Adophe Sax in 1846.  The saxophone comes in many different sizes with the smallest being the E♭ Sopranino and the largest, the Sub-Contrabass saxophone, of which it is believed only 3 have ever been made.

The tenor and alto saxophones are the standard saxophone that are taught, the alto being smaller and more suitable for children.

Flute

The flute is a woodwind instrument, but unlike the clarinet and saxophone does not require a reed to make the sound. The flute is known as an aeroplane instrument that produces its sound by the musician blowing across an opening in the 'head' of the flute.

The flute has for many years just been a classical instrument but more recently has become familiar in jazz and more modern music.

Nuvo Clarineo

Nuvo Flute

Nuvo Toot

The Clarineo is a beginners instrument in C with a profressional clarinet sound.  It is lightweight as it is made of polymer resins, 100% waterproof and ideal for the younger learner.  I have started many students on the Clarineo who have then progressed on to the standard B♭clarinet with ease.

The Nuvo student flute is a lightweight plastic alternative to a metal flute.  It offers the same professional sound of a flute without the expense or weight of a metal flute.  The Nuvo flute is ideal for the younger learner who can tire easily with holding a metal flute up for any length of time.  The Nuvo flute is also very robust and waterproof.

The Nuvo Toot is a cross between a recorder and fife.  If children are eager to learn and not yet big enough for a Nuvo flute then the Toot is for them.  The toot has almost the same fingering as a flute, is held out to the side like a flute, but is a quarter of the size and comes with an interchangeable recorder style mouthpiece.  This is an ideal instrument for the very young to start on as the cost is £30 and the sound is great.  It is a fantastic way of starting towards the flute at a young age.
